Debenhams is a leading international retailer with a strong British heritage. They trade out of 240 stores across 28 countries and are available online across 70 countries, making it the UK’s 11th biggest online retailer.
The Brief
The brief was to create an envelope that could hold a tie and would be used at point of purchase to present the tie to the customer. Up to 10,000 needed to be produced, all handmade.
The Challenge
The instructions from Debenhams were very specific with regard to the exact corporate colour to be used and the precise measurement of the tie envelope. On the reverse side of the envelope there needed to be text and imagery depicting 3 separate tie knots. The challenge in a project like this is achieving consistency of colour across such a wide brief and the fine detailing involved in producing the imagery.
The Solution
Debenhams’ instructions were applied to the letter and several tests were run to ensure that the colour reproduction was perfect to the specification. The imagery was carefully applied to the reverse side of the envelope and once we were satisfied that the colour, text and imagery were all correct we then produced 10,000 flat versions of the tie envelope which all needed to be constructed by hand.
When working on a project like this the work you are doing is reflecting the Debenhams brand so there is no room for error. Debenhams were very pleased with the results and the tie envelope has been used extensively across their stores.
